Archbishop Sean Brady given honorary degree by University of Ulster

The Most Reverend Sean Brady, Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland has been given the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD) from the University of Ulster in recognition of his promotion of peace and reconciliation in Ireland.

The degree was presented to Archbishop Brady by Dr John Gillespie, Head of School of Languages and Literature at a ceremony today, 4th July 2002. Speaking at the ceremony Dr Gillespie said: “In honouring Archbishop Brady we honour not only an outstanding churchman, who has offered his leadership to his own church, but, in co-operation with the other church leaders, to the community as a whole. The steps towards reconciliation that Dr Brady has taken, both public and private, have been taken by someone whose integrity and spirituality are clear for all to see, by someone whose principles are held strongly but graciously.”

The Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh, Dr Robin Eames was also honoured at the same ceremony with an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD).
