PRESS RELEASE

28 MARCH 2006

ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBLIN WILL FULLY

CO-OPERATE WITH COMMISSION

The Archbishop of Dublin, Dr. Diarmuid Martin has renewed his pledge that Judge
Yvonne Murphy and the Commission of Investigation will have his full co-operation
and that of the Archdiocese.

Archbishop Martin said the work of the Commission would be vitally important,
especially for those people who had suffered abuse in the past, as well as for
the priests and the people of the Diocese.

Acknowledging that this would be a difficult time for all involved he said it
is important that the full truth of what happened regarding abuse of children
by priests emerges. “I can appreciate that many will find this process difficult
and distressing and I urge those who need it to avail of support services, either
in the Diocese or from an agency of their choice.” He said it was also his intention
to offer appropriate support to those priests and Diocesan staff who may have
dealings with the Commission – as their evidence and co-operation will be of
crucial significance.

Archbishop Martin said that while co-operating with the Commission as it goes about
its important task will clearly be a priority, he intends to pursue vigorously the
work of renewal of the Diocese in order to continue to address the pastoral and
spiritual needs of the people of Dublin.
