Archbishop Martin appoints Episcopal Vicar

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin has appointed Mgr Dermot Clarke, Parish Priest of the Holy Family Parish, Aughrim Street, as Episcopal Vicar for the Pastoral Area which covers the two Inner City and Cullenswood Deaneries. He takes over as Episcopal Vicar from Bishop Fiachra O’Ceallaigh whose resignation as Auxiliary Bishop was accepted by Pope Benedict XVI last month.   The Pastoral Area contains 35 of Dublin’s 199 Parishes.

Monsignor Clarke was ordained priest in 1963 and has ministered in the Pastoral Area for more than twenty five years of his priesthood, serving in Halston Street 1968 – 1971, Westland Row 1971 – 1976 and Aughrim Street 1994 to today.   He has also served in Templeogue, Blanchardstown and Howth.

He was for many years Chairperson of the Diocesan Commission for Art and Architecture.
