Sixty young pilgrims from the Dioceses of Derry and Clogher have departed from Dublin airport this afternoon for this year’s World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland.
Led by Bishop Donal McKeown, Bishop of Derry, the pilgrims will arrive in Katowice Airport later this evening to begin their participation in the ‘Days in the Diocese’ programme. The ‘Days in the Diocese’ programme a offers pilgrims the opportunity to experience the Church in Poland. The pilgrims will visit the Archdiocese of Katowice in Western Poland, adjacent to the Archdiocese of Krakow, staying in the Ligota-Panewiki parish.
During the World Youth Day festival, Bishop Donal McKeown will be part of a team of catechists who will speak to the young pilgrims in Krakow.
World Youth Day will officially begin on Tuesday 26 July, where the pilgrims of Derry and Clogher dioceses will be joined in Krakow by more than 1500 other pilgrims from Ireland, and up to two million pilgrims from around the world.
