Holy Week and Easter Feature now live on www.catholicbishops.ie

23 Mar 2018

Lent, the most solemn season for the Catholic Church, culminates in the high-point of our liturgical calendar next week during Holy Week and Easter Sunday.  A Holy Week and Easter feature is now available on www.catholicbishops.ie.

During Holy Week (beginning Palm Sunday 25 March) the Church celebrates the mysteries of salvation accomplished by Christ in the last days of his life on earth, beginning with his messianic entrance into Jerusalem.  The Lenten season lasts until the beginning of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday.  The Easter Triduum then begins.

The online feature includes details of:

  • An overview of some of the liturgies taking place in dioceses during Holy Week
  • Details of Dawn Masses for Easter Sunday
  • Pope Francis’ schedule for Holy Week and Easter
  • Scripture readings for Holy Week and Easter

This feature will be updated to include homilies and other texts from bishops from Chrism Masses to the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday liturgies as they become available.
