Bishop Brendan Kelly prays blessing on Bishop Patrick Rooke for his retirement

23 Jun 2021

I am delighted to join fellow Bishops in the West in praying every blessing on Bishop Patrick Rooke, Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, whose retirement on October 31 next has been announced.

Over the past ten years, since his appointment as Bishop, I have come to know Bishop Patrick as a thoughtful,  attentive, kind and deeply-committed man of the Gospel.  It has invariably been a joy to be in his company and to join with him on the many ecumenical and other occasions and celebrations we shared in various parishes in Achonry and latterly here in Galway.

A man of integrity, Bishop Patrick’s counsel and contributions were always wise, clear, and faith-filled.

My prayer is that retirement will be a time of great blessing from God, bringing Bishop Patrick well-deserved rest, good health, and many happy years with his wife Alison and all his family.
