Statement by Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly SMA on the death of Bishop William Lee RIP, Bishop Emeritus of Waterford and Lismore

It is with sadness that today I learned of the death of Bishop William Lee, RIP.

I ask you to join with me in praying for Bishop William and in offering his
family members, Bishop Alphonsus Cullinane, Bishop of Waterford and
Lismore, the priests and people of the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore, our
heartfelt condolences and our prayers over the coming days.

Bishop William was a priest of the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly. A native
of the parish of Newport, Birdhill and Toor. He was ordained to the
priesthood in Maynooth on the 19 June, 1966.

He was President of Saint Patrick’s College, Thurles, from 1987 until his
appointment as Bishop of Waterford and Lismore in 1993. He was
consecrated Bishop on the 25 July, 1993 and was deeply committed to the
ministry entrusted to him as Bishop.

I thank God for the years of ministry and service of Bishop William and
entrust him to the care and love of our Lord, Jesus Christ whom he served
throughout his life.

I invite all to pray that Bishop William may enjoy eternal rest.
