Nativity of Our Lord

Welcome to Christmas Day

Thank you for sharing the journey with us this Advent. We hope you have enjoyed the resources and that you will be back with us next year. From all at the Bishop’s Conference, we wish you a happy and peaceful Christmas.

Christmas Day Prayers

Lord, in this holy season of prayer and song and laughter, we praise you for the great wonders you have sent us: for shining star and angel’s song, for infant’s cry in lowly manger. We praise you for the Word made flesh in a little Child. We behold his glory, and are bathed in its radiance.

God, our Creator, we offer this humble prayer on Christmas Day. We come to worship with a song of thanks in our hearts—a song of redemption, a song of hope and renewal. We pray for joy in our hearts, hope in our God, love to forgive, and peace upon the earth. We ask for the salvation of all our family members and friends, and we pray your blessings on all people. May there be bread for the hungry, love for the unlovable, healing for the sick, protection for our children, and wisdom for our youth. We pray for the forgiveness of sinners and abundant life in Christ. Holy Spirit, fill our hearts with your love and power. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Kids activity Christmas Day

Today is Christmas Day, the day we have been preparing for all throughout Advent.  Today in our churches all over the world the crib will be in place and the final white candle on the advent wreath will be lit.  As we gather this Christmas Day to pray with our families as people of faith we know that God is with us, looking after us.

The gift of Christ

God of hope,
help us to focus on you today,
remembering that the gift of Christ
is the most treasured gift.

We ask you to grant us peace.
Peace in our homes, peace in our churches,
and peace in our hearts,
when the world around us spins out of control.

Help us to stay focused on you, this Christmas and always.
Thank you for loving the whole world enough
to send the greatest gift, your son.
Help us to simplify our activities and traditions
so we can focus our celebration on your birth.

Thank you for being the Prince of Peace,
and we ask you for your peace to reign in our hearts.
Thank you for the simple but life-changing message
of your love for us.
Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Christmas Crib Prayer

Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
in you we contemplate
the splendor of true love;
to you we turn with trust.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
grant that our families too
may be places of communion and prayer,
authentic schools of the Gospel
and small domestic churches.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
may families never again experience
violence, rejection and division;
may all who have been hurt or scandalised
find ready comfort and healing.

Holy Family of Nazareth,
make us once more mindful
of the sacredness and inviolability of the family,
and its beauty in God’s plan.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
graciously hear our prayer.

Amen.
